In order to develop a bodybuilder's physique, one doesn't need to set up a roll-a-way bed at the gym and devote their entire lives to crunches and squats. What most people don't know is that the muscular definition that they see on a bodybuilder is not as much about huge muscles as it is about body fat percentage.
A sample bodybuilding diet consists of large amounts of proteins and moderate amounts of fats and carbohydrates. The human body needs all three of these nutrients, along with a steady dose of vitamins and minerals. However, most people do not maximize their intake by eating the correct proportions of the big three.
If you are starting out seriously overweight, at a body fat percentage of thirty percent or greater for a man or forty percent for a woman, a sample bodybuilding diet should contain equal amounts of carbohydrates and proteins (about 150 grams) and fewer than 50 grams of fat per day. If you want folks to see veins in your biceps or those six-pack abs, five percent body fat is your target.
These daily meals should be spaced out across into at least four to six meals for a total of approximately 1500 to 2000 calories per day. The typical male trying to maintain a specific weight and body fat percentage would be aiming for closer to 3000 kilocalories per day. However, here we are trying to burn up some stored fat, so we reduce the number of fuel we put into the fire. We need the body to run out of calories from food each day so that it turns to those fat stores and sets them ablaze. Our goal is to burn up what is already inside the body, but to keep living a healthy and happy life in the meantime.
Now, this part of the sample bodybuilding diet should only be followed for six out of every seven days. Once per week, it is highly beneficial to eat high amounts of fats and carbohydrates. It is critical that this "binge" eating all take place on the same day. If you starve the body for too long, it will start to hold on to its fat stores because it begins to think it is starving to death. Each week, we need to tell our bodies that there is plenty of food available. Go ahead, body. Feel free to let those fat stores burn.
